I got so distracted by the 100 hens I forgot the question...

I have sand in my nesting boxes , started with shavings , then straw , I bought grass mats, carpet ,

Sand gives me the cleanest eggs by far .
Easy to scoop the occasional poop , we just brush off the sand and sell the eggs

Hmm i will try that.
The plywood leaned up on the fence in turkey coop has spaces were new birds can get away from the flock! I have stuff like that in all my coops

You should figure on a minumum of one foot per bird for roost space, more will make it easier to get them settled in ... being in FL they probably don't need to bunch up snuggly to keep warm
