The lady I get my chickens from had showgirls(silkie x turken) and silkie x Easter Eggers. I got a few of each and I was wondering if they will lay anywhere near as well as the Turken aka naked neck or Easter Eggers I've had in the past?

Good morning. :frow

The Silkies I raised actually laid about 4 eggs per week when not broody, once mature.

Crossing to an EE would diminish that to 3 eggs per week in my experience... BUT if it made them less broody maybe you would get more eggs over all.

Showgirls are not considered crosses. They are simply Silkies with the NN gene. And they will breed true. If you bred A Silkie to a NN Turken, the offspring would be hard feathered. In fact if the Silkie EE crosses are first generation they will be hard feathered as well. And when bred to each other may produce some hard and some silkied offspring.

Happy adventuring! :wee
