Egg laying prime and retired birds?

So i was trying to figure out what a good age for laying hens is, how long they lay thier best and what to expect after thier prime is over? What do you do with retired layers?
 
Ooh I was able to find some info on the laying practices of feathered ladies lol I just didnt use the right words before in the search engine..ooops lol
 
No problem. Normally they're good up to 2 years though I'm sure you already figured it out :)

After that it depends on the breed. If they're an egg laying hybrid like a sex link then they'll likely not lay much if at all after that. Heritage breeds will slack off laying but still lay for years.

Also, our retirees will be spending their entire lives with us.
