Yep, full of questions today.

This is an odd request, but can someone post a picture of a young, egg laying RiR? Mine doesn't 'look' ready to lay. She's 4 1/2 months old, her comb is pink, not red and doesn't look swollen, but she's squatting when anyone gets near her, she's very chatty, and she keeps picking at the nesting box material and laying on the fake eggs before pacing. I'm just curious if she's neurotic or getting ready to lay.

Here are mine, when I first got them a couple weeks ago. They lay eggs every day. Even from the day I brought them home.

What are you feeding her?
Feeding layer feed to non laying birds can slow development (or cause liver failure), so she might be slower to lay than others because of it.
She also may be younger than you think (unless of course you hatched her out yourself). Some pullets are just really late bloomers too.

She's just on flock grower and grit. I've had her for 4 1/2 months, so she could technically be older than that, but I wouldn't know how much. I don't think she's ready based off of her looks, I just noticed that she's squatting a ton, talking a lot, and picking at the nesting box, so I was curious.

She probably will be ready soon. Just be patient. I had one bird that laid its first egg at ten MONTHS old.
