Egg Laying Times

Why not?
It is said that a chicken laying an egg a day is like a woman having an 8 lb. baby every day. Meaning that's a big mass of protein, fat, vitamins and minerals to kick out every day.
Logic would follow that it takes some animals longer to expel their progeny than others. At least that's my logic.

I agree that the time taken to lay an egg can not only vary between the individual chickens but have also found that depending on the size of the egg or when she last laid, an individual chicken can sometimes be quick about it or make a meal of it.

I have found that with my gals, it can depend on circumstances also … if they are out free ranging they might just dash back to the nest box, get the deed done and off out again whereas if they are in the coop and run and not free ranging, they linger a little.

aart, I like you but I consider myself an animal. In fact, I'm happy to call myself one. That makes me a living specimen of an extraordinary planet.
Animals are multicellular, eukaryotic organisms consisting of vertebrates, molluscs, arthropods, annelids, sponges and jellyfish.
If not animals, what are we? Aliens?

That is so true. When I took a group of hens out for a ride in the chicken tractor, there would always be a bird that hadn't laid yet. The tractor didn't have a nest box and she dug her way out of the tractor to run to the coop to lay.
Studies have shown that if a hen goes to lay an egg and food or treats are brought, she will leave the nest and delay laying. Subsequent lay schedule will be delayed and potentially she'll lay one less egg in the following week.

I'm not offended...
Thank you.

As poor of an analogy some may have considered it, I didn't mean to offend. Just wanted to illustrate that individuals vary in timeliness of their execution of bodily functions - regardless of what those functions are. As I've said before, chickens aren't machines. They're individuals that have many internal and external influences as to what they do.

Why not?

Women don't give birth everyday.
Of course not.

That's the whole point. It is to show the stress on the body and the pursuant nutritional requirements to lay regularly.

Well, last time I checked, humans aren't mineral or vegetable

I don't know what NFM is but I think we're done here and I think everyone agrees, each chicken can take widely varying amounts of time to lay an egg. That, regardless of the analogy one may use to illustrate.
