Hi everyone,

I'm a first time duck mom to five mallards. They laid their first eggs in their new environment on Monday and we want ducklings so I let them keep the eggs thinking the hens would Kay more before sitting. My hens are sitting and haven't laid anymore eggs. For more eggs would I have to take theirs away? Is this normal?

When you say your hens are sitting, do you mean incubating the eggs? It is not unusual for birds to lay a few eggs (those in process prior to the move) and then take a break in their laying cycle after being moved to a new environment.

Yes - my hens are very dedicated to incubating these two eggs they have. I was so concerned when they didn't lay more yesterday or today.
