Hi! I have an African goose, who just started laying eggs. I know The eggs definitely unfertilized because she’s my only goose. So far she has layed 2 eggs, both hard shell but different sizes. I’m just wondering why they’re so different in size, how soon should I take them from her nest, and how do I know if they’re okay to eat? She’s my first female bird so I’m new to this 😂

Extra big eggs are probably double yolk. Small might be none. You can collect and eat them immediately. Crack it open and see the smell/color. If you are in the USA: unwashed eggs are counter safe. Wash them in warm water right before you eat them. After two weeks wash them and put in the fridge. (Warm makes sure any bacteria stay outside the shell.) Offer her back the empty shells to help her calcium. Provide free choice oyster shell or other calcium for chickens.

my goose laid an egg today with no shell.. is that normal for geese? This is her first egg this year..
