I have new chickens from Feb 25 and last week found an egg in the run which is full of straw due to all the rain here in NY. It was I'd say med. and lately I'm finding smallish eggs in the next box. Yesterday 2 for the day. One today. I found a barred feather in the nest so I figure it must be the small dominique who by the way is doing a lot of squaking. Today's egg was covered.
Anyhow when will they all start laying on a regular basis and why haven't more of the big girls started to lay, SLW, GLW, AUS, DEL, CM, BO and why wouldn't I have found another larger egg? I have fake eggs in each of 2 nest boxes. I have them on layer now, just started 2days ago.
Also I puchased 4 hens Del. of laying age. Since I got them I've gotten 2 eggs approx each day. 1 of these hens I don't think is a hen.
Well today no eggs from either of the girls. I have 3 hens in a pen together and so far only 2 eggs ea. day. 2 of hens look like hens, one doesn't but I saw her lay an egg so I'm sure she's a hen.
I have the supposed ehn w/ the roo and i know the roo is an egg eater but I figure it's because they have no nest box in the pen. But I'll keep watching to see if he/she acts eggy. They begin to act funny and you can tell when they're trying to lay an egg.
If they lay at a certain time of day is it safe to say that, that's the time they'll lay every day give or take an hour?
