I have 3 chickens. One cornish cross which is yellow. Two Rhode Island reds. I bought all at the same time. They were only supposed to be a week old at that time. Why is my yellow cross laying eggs and my two reds are not? I felt their bones in the back and one feels like she is getting close and the other is not. Help!!! thanks.

Hi
Look at their comb, and if it is a vibrant red colour be expecting eggs soon. If it is still a pale pink they are still to young. I hope this helps :)

The two that are not laying are have dark red combs. One is more fuller than the other. . My next question is what about the oyster shell that I have out for the one that is laying. Is that going dangerous or hurtful when they finally start laying? I am new at this. thanks.

If the combs are bright any day now! Oyster shell is fine for all the birds. I wouldn't worry. How old are they now? I hope you are getting 3 eggs a day soon :)

Thanks. I have had chickens off and on most of my life but I don't think I ever knew that.
