hi there

hi to everyone i have a couple of questions if any one can help my friends chickens has just layed a tiny egg is this normal?
and how can you improve egg production ie vitamins or spices? can any one help please hope evreyone is well x

A tiny egg is not at all unusual with new layers, and will happen now and then with any hen. In winter, when they days are short, you can improve it to some extent by adding a small light to the coop for a few hours early in the morning, on a timer. Other than that, vitamins (unless perhaps if they are deficient) and spices won't change egg production; it is pretty well a matter of genetics.

Hello and welcome....so glad you joined BYC

I love those little tiny eggs. They are so cute when you break them in the frying pan :)

Even experienced layers lay what we call "fart eggs" now and then. Egg production, can't really be encouraged, except by good feeding and flock management and like Judy said, by adding extra light hours on the short winter days. Make sure your hens are well fed on a feed formulated for layers, go easy on the treats, check for parasites such as worms and mites regularly, minimise stresses and make sure their coop is clean and comfortable.
