Egg laying.

Does anyone know if chickens bleed after they lay the first few eggs. I haven't determined witch one is bleeding and I'm hoping its not a disease of some sort. they all sem to be fine eating well. and no sign of any problem. fearing cocci. its been two days that I have found blood. No sign of worms in the poo.

"Most" nesting boxes are covered and raised off the floor. You might try just putting a few bricks under this one and putting a board over the top.

Okay, I'll try that. This is just one that we bought at TSC. It is under a shelf so nobody would poop on the laying hen. But I'll do that as well, thank you :)

I left them all in the coop until 11 AM so only a few more hours than usual. And they are using the nest that the one hen made. found 2 brown eggs there today. So now we are up to 2 eggs. I also noticed I can tell when they are about to lay they will make a singing clucking noise. than I rooster will crow to announce it. So our first egg usually comes around 7:30ish and our second came at 10:30. But we are getting better :) Maybe if I do this long enough I wont have to keep them locked up until 11, maybe they will just go in there to lay. I dont care if they use the nesting box, as long as they lay in the coop.

Of course they lay beside the nesting box! Found one egg from my leghorns beside it. Then Simone laid a rubber shelled egg on poop bar. So getting some oyster shells today. It's still early. Still expecting 2 from my RSLs
