Egg laying

Thanks for your advice

"They are good for quite a while if you haven't washed them or anythin else to remove the coating left by the hen on the eggs. I would feel safe eating them a couple weeks after laying as long as they weren't in direct sun. That said, there is no reason to take that chance unless you are on vacation or something.
I think in parts of Europe they don't refrigerate for weeks at a time."

Wow! Really. So I don't have to be running out to the coop to catch all the eggs for the day. They will still be edible after a day or 2, even in 100 degrees plus outside weather? This is good news indeed. We lost track of our eggs a day before yesterday and yesterday. My kids left them in the nests because the hens were getting protective of their eggs and we got 3 extra today. I also thought it was to late to get them.

Also do Hens take turns sitting on the eggs even if they are not theirs to claim?

It's so relaxing to what the hens interact with each other.

There is a difference between sharing a nest for laying purposes and brooding to hatch eggs. Once a hen starts hatching eggs she doesn't share that nest. It sure is fun watching these birds isn't it!

You can keep eggs on the counter for two months if you don't wash off the bloom, the natural outer substance on the shell. In the hottest of all weather, they still keep a month. With no fridge. We store ours on top of the breadbox.

Hi, everyone. I am so excited about my chickens. We are getting 2 eggs a day now. 1 egg is usually bigger then the other. So I believe to have 2 chickens laying. We did find an egg with a thin sack on the wood shelf not a nesting place. It was good size but no shell. I did add oyster shell to their diet.
I was wondering if anyone has a website to go to for getting chicken coop ideas or showing pictures of your chicken coops. We live in the high desert in CA. We don't have many neighbors with chickens. We do have a good coop right now my husband built. But since we have 23 chickens and 2 roosters. We need to expand. I know this is alot of questions. Thanks to all of you
