egg-o-meter

Try to remember that the Egg-O-Meter measures the temp inside the egg. So, while the air temp in the bator might be 102, it will take a while for the inside of the egg to catch up. It works the same way going down- if the bator gets unplugged by mistake the air temp will drop rapidly, but the inside of the egg will take much longer. This is what is so good about this type of thermometer... it keeps me from worrying so much over short-term air temp changes, because I can see that the embryo is holding temp just fine. I tested mine before using it for the eggs by comparing it with thermometer that I know is very accurate, and tested it at low-high temps and everything in between. It was right on the entire time, as long as I remembered to wait for it to catch up, not expecting it to change as rapidly as the one measuring the air temp.
If the Egg-O-Meter says 99 and you want 100, adjust the bator just a tiny bit and wait at least an hour for the inside of the egg to catch up.
Hope that makes you feel better. It is really comforting to know that even if the egg temp goes up or down, it isn't doing a rapid, drastic change like the air. This must be better for the chicks in my opinion.

well, i have the egg-o-meter, and a digital one from walmart. eggo says 99.1 the digital reads 101.7 in my hova bator. fan yes. humidity 62, a little high i know. this is my first hatch with full size eggs using the eggo meter. silkies before piped on day 18. i feel like the internal temp of the egg is a degree or so cooler than the inside air temp of the bator. if thats so these eggs will hatch a day or two early like the silkie eggs. if it reads 99.5 through out the hatch they should do fine. i hope i was helpful. the ones from walmart tend to be off after a few hatches. mine has done alot of hatches. good luck I AGREE WITH DOVE CANYON SUPER EXPLANATION

if there hatching leave it alone. i sent my egg-o-meter back after having the last three hatches hatch early. i now have the spot check made by brinsea. going for the water wiggly toy tommorow.

I bought one and the "egg" in question is a piece of wood!!!

I doubt if this is equal to the inside of an egg. It was very slow in response to temp changes and so I took in apart. I replaced the wooden egg with a real one filled with cold pack gel. It works much better. You have to make sure there are no air pockets in the egg or your measuring air temp.
