Egg on floor

Well, this morning went out at about 6:08 and there it was on the floor. Very disappointing since she is my best layer.

I have a suspicion that she is laying on the roost and this is why I find the eggs on the floor. This is the third egg. The first one I found was pecked at, the second was not pecked so I was able to collect it and the one this morning was right next to a branch, I am sure it hit it and cracked when it fell.

I think someone mention something about timing. It seems that she is laying while it's still dark because I was out there at sunrise. Any insight into this?

Days are getting shorter already. Maybe you could start having a light come on before sunrise so she can get to the box before she lays?

I am actually planning on doing that tomorrow morning. I just installed a light this evening. Thank you for the advice.

I woke up this morning at 5:20, turned their light on. She came off the roost and basically went straight into the box.

You might want to have a timer, and give them enough light to keep them laying. Light on @ 5, off @ 8 maybe? That gives you the 15 hours to keep them laying.
