egg peritonitis?, vent gleet?, something else?

yup, almost all of her eggs do not fit in XL boxes.
.... I was looking back and realized I have been so worried and tired I forgot to tell you her name and story-

Her name is Ralphie, my son went to UC Boulder, she is named after the CU Boulder mascot, Ralphie the buffalo. Also the school colors are black and gold- just like Ralphie. Ralphie has a feisty, smart attitude, just like the buffalo. However Ralphie is really very sweet and lovable too.

Ralphie is doing much better this evening!!! missychicky came home tonight and Ralphie perked up a lot!! the vent is not prolasping nearly as far as it was and Ralphie is not straining anymore. She still has white watery poop and the strange white plaques are still on her vent. However they do seem to be responding to the anti fungal cream. She is sleeping with the flock tonight but I will probably bring her back in tomorrow to prevent her from laying any eggs.
Thanks for all of the support, I really appreciate it.

missychicky mom.
..... missychicky says hi! to all of her friends.

I am really glad to hear she is doing better and that missychicky is back home from camp.

I would suggest that maybe adding some oil to this hens diet might help her some. maybe some olive oil to coat thing through on a daily basis but not too much of course. black sunflower oil seeds would help too if you have some around?

Anyhow, I just hope this doesn't happen to her again. It sure looked painful.

Hi, Missychicky here-

I have gotten several lumps of gelatinous goo out of ralphies vent. I don't know what they are or if it is something to worry about. Other than that ralphie seems to be steadily improving, her poop is getting more normal and she is feisty as ever. Even the crust on her vent seems to be receding, but I am still keeping a watchful eye on her. But is there anything I need to do about the goo in her vent?

mom again....
Ralphie seems a lot better and she has had some normal poops. I have been getting crusty white plaques that smell really bad (or so I am told, I can't smell very well). These seem to be responding well to the anti fungal treatment. What happened today was that I was cleaning plaques out of her vent, I found this- I think they were on the poop side not the egg side but I don't really know. They did not seem to be attached to anything and removing them did not bother her any worse then when I have been exploring before. My best guess is bits of shed intestine that have vent gleet on them? I am still getting some milky white fluid out also. Not nearly as much as before and now it is more sticky and gooey, it is also not all white but has clear in it now. - and there is only a little.
I gave her a 20 minute bath in warm ACV water, I squirted about 5 ml of ACV water in her along with about 3 ml of oil. I also squirted some ACV water and some oil in her vent. I have to get her dry to give her the anti fungal cream.

Ok, update-
Ralphie is doing better I think, she is eating and drinking (though not as much as normal) and when I put her outside she has no difficulty running around with the rest of the flock. It seems to me that only when I bring her in does she act more docile and sluggish. But I have noticed on the inside of her vent is a yellow, stinky crust. It coats most of the inside that I can easily see and when I open her vent wider it apears that there may be a buildup deaper in. I have been peeling this crust off, and it doesn't seem to bother her too much. But sometimes when my finger is up her vent she "strains". It looks sortof like she's trying to poop (which sometimes happens during this) but can't push the feces out. She blows through her nose in effort and the inside tissue comes out more than it should but nothing comes out. Basicly pooping is taking a lot more effort than it should and isn't always succusful. Is something blocking her tract? Does anyone know what exactly is wrong with ralphie?

Hi MissyChickie,

Wondering if your mom/you ever figured out what was going on with Ralphie and if the anti-fungalworked. We have a Light Brahma with almost the exact symptoms Ralphie had and we're not having much luck treating her.

Thanks!
