Hello,
I'm a newby and I'm currently treating my now pet chook Chicky who has been diagnosed with egg pertonitis for the 2nd time in 2 months. She is currently on baytril (which saved her the first time) and now flusapex drops and the vet has suggested that a hormonal implant will be a better option for treatment. I'm just curious if anyone has successfully treated a chook for this horrible illness with hormonal implants.

Symptoms of egg pertonitis: Walking like a penguin/waddling (belly touching the ground), breathing heavily, pooping clear watery discharge and very lethargic, refusing food and drinking a lot of water.)

I haven't seen anything written about the hormone implant. Most of the people I have read about seem to have this problem over and over, with the hen eventually developing ascites (fluid in abdomen) and dying. I would probably think about culling.

It's a first for me also to hear about a hormone implant. Recently, she's had her belly drained and the medication has helped her out. She's walking and talking normally, eating and pooping fine. I just feel like i'm not ready to give up on her now that she's responding to treatment quite well.
