I'm not stalking you, honest -
but it'll be fine. I set some upright in egg cartons my first time, and even then, one pipped on the bottom (wrong end) I couldn't see the pip or zip. I thought it was going to be a quitter til it popped up from the baby pushing her way out!

....I'm wanting to set eggs now...!

It can be because of eggs being positioned wrong in the incubator- but also - I have seen figures that state 2-5% of eggs will pip this way jut through pure chance.

They can still hatch- but I have noticed that thy are much slower and often in the vacinity of two to three day later in hacthing. One reason for this is that due to the reduced space they have to move- triggering of the absorbtion of blood and veins is slower to happen. Often they equire some minimal assistance will removal of shell to allow them to move better.

I always set eggs large side up. I thought it may have piped at the bottom due to eggs getting jostled about in shipping.

I set mine laying down anymore, I keep reading that waterfowl prefer it. Hard to say if it's improved my hatches, because I've made other changes since I started doing that too. BUT I have had improved hatches.

I think Toadbriar means that they set eggs lying on their side now

That's the way to do it - eggs should be set lying on their side.
