I'm sure this subject has been discussed many times before but I've never had this happen before so I never really paid attention. I've got new hampshire chick pipping on the narrow end of the egg. Anyone have any experience with this? Can it hatch normally or will it need help?

I don't have any experience to say this with, but I think from theory that you would HAVE to help it. Can it breath? Is the aircell on the narrow end?

Don't do a thing. If you can see the external pip, the chick has penetrated the inner membrane and shell and can breathe. It will be fine, just give it time. They do that sometimes.

Edit: It should hatch normally. The only reason it may not is if it is oddly positioned and cannot rotate to zip through the shell. Don't rush with trying to help it, though. It can take a while, it is exhausting for the chick. And if you try and help before all the blood vessels around the shell have dried, then the chick can bleed to death.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye on it. I've learned though experience to not intervene unless absolutely necessary but I've never dealt with this situation before. Hopefully he'll find his way out.

My last hatch the chicks piped all over the place top bottom sides i didnt touch them they were ok. It shouldnt be a issue.

Well he made it out. So that answers that question. You learn something new everyday.
