Egg pipped

The fact that he is moving and strong is a good sign that you do not need to help. If however, you don’t see any progress in a few hours and can’t stand it, you can help a little. I was taught to only chip shell, not membrane, in a ring shape around the egg. This mimics the normal zip. If you see blood vessels in the membrane or blood stop immediately, he isn’t ready yet. You may only need to do a little, not the whole band. Then put him back. You still want your little one to finish hatching himself.

It the crack is going around like a normal zip would this baby will be fine
24 hours is a goal but not a has to be
I had one zip 8 hours after pip and one 30 hours after
All depends on air cell size as baby will pip out once loosing air
If baby makes a big hole in one area abd doesn’t go around then you may need to help make the zip or if baby zips straight down and not around its in wrong position and will need help
But if the pips are slightly aways from one another or its going in a line around the egg baby will do it when it’s ready to go
If you post a picture of it’s progress it will help
Very excited for you

Looking at the first picture you did baby looks to be going straight to the end of the egg and not around
Has it made a big hole in one area or got the the end of the egg ?

This is how it’s looking currently

It does look like it’s going straight down and not around
I just had one do this my last hatch and had to assist as baby was In the wrong position
Start at its first pip and zip around
Wet the membrane and check for veins. If all is good take the cap off and let baby push itself out
If still veins them wait a bit long to pull the cap back
@WVduckchick may have even more advice

So checked on it and some of the shell just fell off but it’s not moving that I can tell. Tried candling but can’t really see anything

I did and got no response. Thought I saw it move a little but not sure if that was wishful thinking or not

Ok, take a tweezers and see if you can gently move that flap of membrane to peek in. Your baby was getting plenty of oxygen with that hole but may have been stuck as new duck mommy mentioned. I would now chip away the shell in the shape of a belt around the circumference of the egg. Start from the middle of the current hole. 🙏
