egg prices

About $2 a doz around here. May drop as everyone and their brother has been buying chickens this year.....

Organic brown here are running 3.79 per dozen and organic white about 3.49/dozen. Others are running 3.19 per dozen.

I am going to be selling mine for 2.25 per dozen, the first dozen is 2.75 for your carton and dozen bring your carton back 2.25 a dozen thereafter.

At least the cost of my ccartons and labels and such will be covered.

It is amazing to me the price of egg cartons. The recycled paper cartons should be selling for no more than .15 each. When you look at misprinted cartons the retailers are getting a tax right off for defective material and still selling them at a profit. 40 years ago you could pick up misprinted cartons out of the trash for free as they would through them away. Now days recycle everything and still make a profit. I am in the wrong business. John----------- sorry for venting, I guess the high prices of everything is getting to me

I just bought farm fresh here for 1.89 a dozen in a little market, but have spent as much as 2.59 at super market during the winter. Come on babies, grow up and get laying. Pleeease.

Honest to Pete, this is no joke, I've only had my ten chicks for not quite four weeks, and I am fast approaching (maybe already) having spent $1,500 on them. I cannot imagine how anyone could make a profit on a small egg business without charging at least $10 a dozen.
More than likely, I'll end up with five hens and five roosters to give away. During those five blue Orpington hens' two years of laying one egg every 36 hours, I should get a maximum 200 dozen eggs if all goes well and nothing happens to any of the hens, i.e., that will be at least $7.50 a dozen PLUS the cost of feed for those two years, and that's only if there are zero problems during those two years.

i figger it cost me around . 65 a doz. to produce free range large eggs. but thats just the feed involved, there are of course many other expences. i sell eggs for $1.50 a doz. and probably come close to breaking even.--------

Sorry joebryant for you having to spend so much. Could you elaborate a little more on your expenses. This is my first batch(15 to start) and I probably have 250 in them. I am on my 17th week and so far I have 30 in the day olds plus say 50 for the 200 lbs of feed and straw. The rest went into the coop. I did pick my day olds up at the hatchery so the shipping was nothing but 15 in gas. Mine now free range so maybe 10 lbs in feed and a little straw each week. Far from $1500. After my initial expenses the coop is out of the way and my hens will keep giving me as many chicks that I allow. John
