If I save all moneys I get for eggs I can barely pay for the feed, not counting gas to get it. I do give .25 discount for returned cartons. But some eggs go for barter, which we both make out pretty good.
hey Ruby,
Giving 25 cent back for the carton is a great idea!!
I also ask my friends and church family to save all their egg cartons from where ever they buy their eggs. This way It keeps the cost down.
Thanks for your reply, Chris AKA Barney
My wife sells them for $3.00 a dozen at the college she works at, I also will sell them for $3.00 at my work. They are a mixture of green and brown eggs. I never sold them before but started to get so many request we decided to reduce feed cost by selling them.
First of al I want to say...I'm so sorry for your loss.
If your church has a complete kitchen, eg. big stove freezers, frig. You have half the battle won! The next battle to trying to convince the nay-sayers in the church that this is a worthy mission. Get on the good side and drag anyone else to this meeting that can give straight forward answers.
Some folks do not like change.
Our daughter Cori has started a mission for kids at the skate park! She brings them to the feed too! THese kids are labeled high risk. She tries to assure them that she is there for them at any time. So now there's 2 missions!
We started 6 years ago one the faith of a little mustard seed. That's why our mission is called The Mustard Seed Connection. PTL!
The health dept. is pretty easy on people that feed the hungry. As long a we do not charge a fee, they're good with that. Find out if your church or someone else's church has the working kitchen. Get a group of people that want to help you. ASk the church members to donate monies so you can buy food. We started out with my co-founder and I pitching in $100 each to start us off. You and get 10lb bags of cut up chicken at WalMart for a reasonable price. We by about 5 bags and them we have oven fried chicken, some rice, or potatoes and gravy, a salad, and a veggie. We serve dessert, some times cake, sometimes icecream. This is a reasonable dinner. Believe it or not, We are able to make 100 meals for a buck each meal!!
We also get our breads from the local food bank. They always have enough to share with us, and some more so our guests can take some home with them. Sometimes they have a sheet cake that they received from the local grocery store and they give that to us. You can also ask the grocers to save some veggies and fruit . 99% of the things we get from them are perfect. We go to Costco, and buy the huge cans of corn and green beans, large bags of grated cheese for baked ziti and many more items.
We also deliver dinners to the shut ins and sometimes people want to take some more dinners home with them. We feed the homeless, the poor and the lonely. Our motto is: We feed until there is no one left to feed!
I could go on and on. Asks me questions and i will try and help you out! I applaud your daughter, she has a big heart
