i buy fresh hen eggs from a friend and have noticed a few with the same colored shell-when i crack them, the yolk is already cracked and the whites seem odd textured....its like its all run together. no clue what this could mean....any thoughts?

Hi there, welcome to BYC! :frow

Could be caused by old age in a layer hen or being stored too long at room temperature in warmer weather... or even hot weather can have heavy impact on the egg quality before being laid or stop laying all together for a time.

A good article that describes differing egg conditions and POSSIBLE causes.. noting disease is almost always ONE of the possibilities, it's important not to jump to that conclusion...

Hope this helps some. :)

I always date my eggs with a pencil as to the day they were laid. Maybe mention the egg problem with your friend, she may have an idea.
When you receive the eggs do you leave them on the counter or in the fridge?
Suggest if it isn't too much work to maybe dating the eggs to help with the detective work.
