We recently started getting eggs from our Rhode Island Red hens we got in may. Most of them are on the small side but noticed 2-3 eggs so far had brown string like material in them about the diameter of a pencil just wondering what this is and if there is something they are missing in their diet that would cure this

Hi @Nick D :frow Welcome To BYC!

Can you post a photo of the brown string material in your egg?

Are you seeing the Chalaza in the egg? (look at the photos in this link: http://boredomtherapy.com/egg-yolk-chalaza/ )

From your description, your pullets have not been laying eggs very long. As they get older and lay more eggs, your eggs will increase in size.

Hope that helps:)
