Egg production after molting?

All of my adult birds more than a year old are in the heavy stages of molt. Most with similar aged birds north of the equator should be seeing similar.

I am having the same issue...looks like a pillow fight has been going on for about 1 1/2 months. I have 7- 2 yr olds & this is their first "hard" molt. Hence, one egg every 2 days from 7 hens. It's been like this for about 2 -3 weeks. Plus the days are getting short. They were very good producers until the molt started.

As to adding to the flock, I did have one of my Buffs go broody over the summer & my kind neighbor gave me 4 fertile eggs for her to sit. The result was one Polish crested rooster (a real beauty), one Polish crested hen, & one Barred Rock/Polish crested hen (her coloring is wonderful). Mom eased the children into the flock so I didn't have to. Hope for another to go broody this spring because I should have fertile eggs. Yippeee.

All my 1 1/2 year old hens (10 of them) molted this year. It did look like a pillow fight happen you're right. My husband asked me if I ran over a chiclet with the lawn mower. Anyways all their feathers are beautiful again. I increased their protein by giving them "feather fixer" 18% protein layer feed. Most of them started laying again except the Easter eggers I haven't seen a blue egg since late September. Has anyone had their chickens do this? It's frustrating my dozens are dull. I do have a multiple age flock. I have never had a problem introducing the new pullets. I introduce them around 8 weeks all ten at a time. That way the pecking and bullying is disbursed. My hens however do hate young Roos. It was ugly.

Anyways I want blue/green eggs again. They were great layers before their molt 5-6/chicken/week even through last winter. Has anyone had this problem before?
