Maybe it is Big Ag's version of organic, however no one who has practiced organic farming or gardening before the government let big profits top benefits farm the way you claim.

"2-4D is a an ingredient in Agent Orange" is a statement that has no use other than scaring people meaninglessly. Water is also an ingredient in Agent Orange, but that doesn't mean we should be scared of it. What made Agent Orange so toxic was that it was supposed to have 2,4,5-T, but was contaminated with 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzodioxin (TCDD).


I don't like dislike Organic, what I dislike is how often people pushing their Organic agenda resort to scare tactics, resort to misinformation, and resort to appeals to emotion and ignorance. What I dislike is how often they have no idea what the science actually says, and how often they push the "natural" choice over the safe one.

You sound the same way! Did they NOT introduce Round Up as a great alternative to MORE toxic herbicides like 2,4-D? You take every opportunity to spread half truths about organic. Some people prefer organic over other stuff so get over it.

I cant see how Round Up could be a alternative to 2,4-D (2,4-Doichlorophenoxyacetic acid), there two completely different types of herbicides.
Round Up is a herbicide that kills all types of plant life where as 2,4-D only kills broad leaf plants (Dicotyledon's).

If you spray a lawn with Round Up it will kill everything (grass, weeds, etc.) but if you spray or spread 2,4-D on a lawn it will only kill broad leaf plants and the grass will be unharmed.
The same can be done on a field of heirloom corn, you can spray the field with 2,4-D and the corn is unharmed but spray that same field with Round Up and that corn will die..

Is one safer than the other,,,,, I cant say but will say that both will do more harm than good if in the wrong hands.
I have always said that the average "home owner" will do more harm than a farmer will when using products like Round Up, 2,4-D and Burn Out (a organic weed killer containing Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) ).

That's how the Round Up Ready Crops were marketed, no matter what the real reason was. I can't do damage with ANY herbicide or pesticide, as I use NONE around here. I have had garden plants damaged however, by the farmer on my FILs land spraying Round Up on a windy day! Round Up & 2,4- D resistant plants were just approved by our fine government, so now we will get two herbicides drifting on our property instead of one. Can't wait! I will be kicking his butt off my last 1/2 acre that he still farms to give a little more buffer.

My chickens egg production went way down this summer. I have 8 chickens, different varieties. One some days I would only get one or two eggs total from all the chickens. This happened a few weeks in a row. The other week I got 3 and 4 eggs a day and now this week back to 1 and 2. My chickens are about a year and a half old. I thought it was the heat that was the problem and insulated their house and also put a fan in. It may be the heat. I was getting 8 eggs a day for a long time. The chickens seem happy and healthy. I feed them supplements like oatmeal and banannas, rice and peas, noodles, watermelon, and other assorted treats. I had a problem with mites on a couple of them and the olive oil and Vaseline cleared that up. They have molted a little as I see a few more feathers than usual in their coop but other than that they seem happy and healthy. They free range my yard and my neighbors yard during the day and then go to the coop for safety for the night. Even though I live in the middle of a city. Hope your chickens are fine and that maybe its just been the heat that is slowing them down.

That was one of the sales tools. The other and probably more important to the environment was the ability to plant soybeans with out tillage and still have the ability to control weeds, this change in production has save millions of tons of topsoil from entering our lakes and waterways.

It sounds like your problem is with the Farmer next door, and has nothing to do with the actual pesticides. Maybe you should talk to him?

Roundup is used because it's much safer than previous generations of herbicide, and more effective. The alternative is either less effective, more dangerous, or significantly more dangerous to the environment - Or we could just not grow enough food - and have people die. Organic is a pretty philosophy, but it's simply not effective enough.

If we go back to small scale organic farming (which never actually happened), almost everyone has to be a farmer. I'd be okay being a farmer, but the vast majority of people have no interest in being one.

It also sounds like a problem with the talking points of the anti GMO movement. 2-4-D is already a selective herbicide and for the past 70 years it has been used mostly as a pre-emergent herbicide in or on wheat, rice, corn, barley, oats, quinoa, lawns, and/or pastures. 2-4-D only kills broadleaf weeds, not grasses. The surprising thing about this is that no Genetic Modification is or was required to confer 2-4-D resistance to wheat, corn or other members of the grass family. This pesticide tolerance is naturally conveyed. And despite millions of years of growing cheek to jowl beside each other this herbicide resistance has not jumped lets say from your lawn grasses to the dandelions in your front yard. Does that make so called "organic" cereal grains like corn and wheat non organic because of their tolerance of 2 4 D?

2 4 D was not developed but instead was discovered during WWII by both the British and the US Army while they were looking for a herbicide to spray on the crops of the Fascist nations, hopefully to create a crippling famine. 2 4 D did not fit the bill because it only killed things like lettuce, Brussels sprouts, and eggplants.

I found the answer. They are molting. Its the time of year. Feathers flying and huge drop in egg production or no egg production. What a relief to know.
