Egg Production

It depends somewhat on the breeds you have. Some of the hybrids will lay like crazy for 1-2 years but then production drops way down. I've had Black Australorps give me 3-4 years of good laying and afterward slowly decline with a couple (my children's pets at that point) still producing an occasional egg even into their teens. I have read about a Buff Orpington that still produced an occasional egg when it was 17 years old. However if you are keeping chickens for egg production, I would plan on replacing your layers at least every 3 years.
