Egg selling question

I want to take our eggs this summer to our local farmers market. Does anyone have any good ideas on how to keep them cold? Should I cooler them? Am I better off just having people pick them up from the house? Our family already has customers in the neighborhood, but my father's going to market with garden stuff anyway...so I figured we could expand our sales.

We are planning on doing the same thing. Cooler with LOTS of ice packs (rather than cubed ice) and a heavy blanket to cover the cooler with.

Find out if there are any regulations for selling eggs in your state.

There may be clauses about eating eggs and hatching eggs. Hatching egg laws are much more lenient in Texas than eating eggs.
The fines are huge!

Try to keep them about 60 degrees or cooler.
Good Luck, we sell hatching eggs at a large flea market and do very well with them.

Luckily for me, I can sell eggs or anything else I want that is produced on my farm (at least 75%) at my local farmer's markets. But, yes, please check it out, it wouldn't be worth it to sell a few extra eggs and incur a huge fine. Another option if it's a problem in your state might be to put out some business cards at the market, then people could come to you...

sell them as "pet food" their are very few laws regarding the sales of animal food, and the people want to eat it themselves you really can't stop them...

My Mom asked our local farmers market if we could sell eggs a few years ago and they said no.

In Indiana you can sell your eggs from your property, but to sell them anywhere else (farmer's market, veggie stand, etc.) you have to have two different licenses.

I live in Indiana and over the winter we increased our flock specifically so we could do business at the local farmers market and I can't find how to apply for a license or how much they cost (that is up to date). I looked up the Indiana egg board but they just had pages upon pages of 2009 egg production commercial vs small farms. In those pages it said if you sell more than 5 cartons of eggs a week a $25 annual fee is what you needed to pay to get a license.
Any thoughts as to where to look/who to talk to in order to get my license? Market season will be here before you know it!
