Egg shell abnormality(pictures) Help?

Ditto Dat!

Deep all day shade is best but....

I give a dose of Sav-a-Chick electrolytes/vitamins about once a week during heat waves. It really seems to help....started this after they saved a heat stroked hen once.
Can mix up a smaller amount, just wrap the packet tight and store in a dry cool place.
Always have plain water available too.

BIG(9x14x2") chunks of ice last all day for wading, sitting, and sipping.
Much more useful to the chickens than frozen foods and treats.

Make space in your freezer!

Lucky we got a spare fridge/ freezer in the garage!! Thank you!
Honestly got me scared now i didnt know they get heat stroke. And its dumb of me of course, if a person can have one, of course then a chicken can .... i did take my two bantams in the bedroom today cuz its the only one with air conditioning They look heaps better. I wish i could do that to all my chookies every day. I swear if i get rich, they will get air conditioning in their coop ahahahahhahaha lol
I will get that electrolyte stuff! !!
I feel so bad not Having done that stuff for them before.

i didnt know they get heat stroke.
I didn't either until one of mine got it....

Had hen suffer heat exhaustion/stroke one summer, she was standing stock still and let me walk right up to her(not at all normal for this bird). I determined she could not see out of one eye at all and the other was dicey. I started hydrating her with Qtip soaked in Sav-a-Chik solution held against the side of her beak, had to rub under her beak and the front of her neck to get her to swallow at first. Did this until she got too stressed, about 10 minutes, put her in a cage with a fan nearby to rest. Repeated this about every hour for half the day until she would drink out of a cup held in front of her. She recovered and I also gave the rest of the flock a dose of Sav-a-Chik solution in an open waterer(I use horizontal nipples on waterers), it really seemed to reduce the heat stress so now do that regularly when the heat waves are extreme and days long. Just a half gallons worth every couple days.

I will repeat...always make sure they have plain water available too.
EL's can help but 'more' is not better....they can be 'over-done'.

Many peeps cool their coops with home made devices like in video.
Just a thought for you to consider. They also do use misters. I have a set of misters, but I'm not in a very hot area. Chickens are fine. I use misters to keep my grandchildren COOLED as they enjoy playing in the back yard. :thumbsup

Thank you so much ! That gave me an idea watching this. I actually bought a solar powered fan to put on the roof of the coop. I also added more shade next to the coop by putting up a gazebo and pegging it into the ground.

My one pekin bantam seems to have way more feathers than the other one and she is suffering the most. Gets very stressed from the heat and starts showing signs of the respiratory disease again. I keep bringing her in the aircon and giving her protein and just ran out of electrolytes but otherwise that too.
I know its a bit extreme but has anyone ever given a chicken a haircut to thin out the feathers ?? At this point she is the prettyest chookie but i couldnt care less. She is the only one whos feathers are so thick that you cant find the skin. Cant feel it or anything when you scratch her.. would that be a dumb thing to do ?

I did give haircuts to my Polish chickens, but only on the head, and for different reason. It is winter at my location, and if you are aware of the Hairdo Polish chickens have,,, well, they would mop up a large quantity of water every time they drank. The water has potential to freeze into icicles, so haircut was the solution.

Only other thing, I did, and that was long ago, was; clip flight feathers.
Kept chickens from flying over 6 foot fence.
Try giving your chicken a water bath. I know they usually don't like water baths. That may thin out some of the down feathers. :idunno
It will at least keep hen cool during the time it takes to dry out.

View attachment 1995519 View attachment 1995520 View attachment 1995521 Hi!
Ive got a flock infected with mycoplasma. And that often causes then respiratory disease when they get stressed. But more often it causes them bad reproductive tract infection, if not treated then death. Have Had all eventually die due to vets treatments not sufficient. (No i will not cull them all sorry)
But now my bantam who has never yet had this reprod. tract infection has started laying eggs like this. Completely different from the eggs i usually get when they get the infection. Her eggs have a hole in the exact same place and siZe on the bottom of the egg. The shell
Definitely thinner and rough.
She has been looking a bit rough past weeks like a person whos been jogging and hot all day.
So im hoping someone here has experience with the exact same looking eggs and can reassure me that its just from heat. She does have the thickest layer of feathers and its Australia dry hot summer atm.

I wish to get more facts or educated opinions not guesses. Because if this is not due to heat then she needs treatment asap. :(
Love you thank you guys

Just keep an eye on the condition of the fan - especially if it's being used in the coop as an extraction fan - they aren't generally made to handle a lot of dust and chickens produce a lot of it - especially when molting.
