Egg shell has yolk smeared on the outside...what's wrong?

What's going on with your hen, she sounds very sick.

She is a red sexlink about 3 yrs old. She seems fine other than just standing around.kind of like a person with painful hemorrhoids. I am certain she did not eat an egg. I have had many hens before who were egg eaters. But why can this happen - have yolk on the outside of the shell. This should be with the sticky yolk covered egg thread.
