Egg shell textures?

Well we have noticed that a few eggs have a very rough sand paper feeling shell.....my mom wants to know if this means they are lacking something in they're diet or if its just normal? Not all of them are laying rough eggs....maybe like 2 outta the 5 or so we get a day

Probably not. You will see all sorts of odd things over time. Store bought eggs are screened so we never see the odd stuff.

If they are on layer and have oyster shell on the side, you are doing fine.

Both these sites discuss this condition and give somewhat different possible causes. They are both written for commercial operations where cosmetics are more important. One possible cause not given is that the hens are young and just starting to lay. You might look through the lists and see if you notice something you might want to change, but the quality of the egg inside should not be a problem.
