Egg shells for calcium

The reading I’ve done suggests only using the egg shells of your own birds if you’re going to supplement with egg shells. This ensures that you aren’t introducing something foreign to them via the egg shells - meaning, whatever is on the shells is something they’ve already been exposed to within their own environment. Personally, I’ve provided crushed egg shells to my birds (their own) and haven’t seen them do much with them. Usually they ignore them so I assume they get enough calcium from other sources.
