My Hens were laying beautiful perfect looking eggs but just recently, I have noticed, a pea sized darker spot on the otherwise perfect shells making them look ugly. Don't know why this has started to happen. All birds are healthy. No changes in food etc. Anyone know why this is happening?

From time to time, our eggs have spots and lumps on them. It appears to be totally normal. You can probably flick the lumps off with your fingernail. My girls' eggs also vary in the shade of brown from day to day, so there's that.

Thanks for your reply. I was wondering if it was a lack of calcium or something. The spot seems to be on the 'end' of the Egg all the time and not all are affected. Some are still laying 'perfect' Eggs. I am wondering if it is because there is a lot of 'henpecking' at laying times when they all want to lay at the same time and fight for the same 1 laying box!

Homegrown eggs are just not always as pretty as grocery eggs.

Thank you for your reply. I was just concerned because of the sudden change over the last 2 weeks.
