Egg Shells

I understand why people are saying that you should not mix egg shells with the chickens food because they may get more calcium than they need. But if I don't do this then they may get a taste for egg shells and then start eating their eggs! So I have been mixing the egg shells in their food. But I do put the egg shells in a separate container that has food in it other than their main feeder and so will the chickens realize that they get more calcium in this food or will they not? If they do then they may still not eat more than they need. Does anybody have advise for me?

I baked egg shells ONE TIME. I smelled so disgusting! Never again!
They just need to be dry, so I air dry mine. Just a small (clementine) box on the sun porch. Let them air dry until box is full.
Crush up and mix in with the oyster shells in the wall hopper. I notice hens pecking through the hopper for specific things they prefer.
