I have a flock of red sex link pullets that are 29 weeks old. They started laying small eggs at about 20 weeks old. But the eggs havent got much bigger. Seems to be taking longer then normal. My other flock of Barred Rocks only laid small eggs for about 4 to 5 weeks then they got about jumbo size. Could there be anything effecting the egg size? Too much protein,,,not enuff protein?

I think it depends on the breed?? I feed 20% protein which is PLENTY for egg production, and my 4 pullets are still laying pretty small eggs. They have been laying for almost 2 months now, and they are getting to be very reliable layers, but the eggs are pretty small.

My red sexlink laid nice BIG brown eggs, in very interesting colors, but she's from TSC so I don't know which cross of breeds she actually is.

My black sexlinks are half BO and half BR and they are still laying smallish eggs, however the eggs are the same size as my pure BO's eggs. The BO eggs that I have hatched out were also small compared to other breeds in the 'bator, so I think the small egg size comes from the Buff Orpingtons.

I have some Leghorn ladies, that have always laid large eggs -- they are a year old and their eggs are getting bigger! They must lay MONSTER eggs after their molt!!!!

They are probably getting bigger, you're just not noticing it. I thought some of my hens eggs weren't that much bigger than when they started laying, then my welsummer pullets started laying. I was

geez they're small! I just wasn't seeing that they are getting bigger, just slowly.

And after they go through a molt, the eggs get even bigger. My BR molted in December and when she started up again, her eggs were huge.
