I got quite the variety today! One chicken laid her first egg, which is smaller than a quarter! And another one laid the biggest one I've ever seen! I put one of our normal eggs in the picture for comparison. Do you think the big one has a double yolk?!

One of my hens can sympathize! I've got two brown layers in with my white laying leghorns. Either my buff who was given from egg "farmer" because of her broodiness (hasn't laid anything since I got her) or a chicken called "broke neck" (black australorp given from neighbor and was injured as a juvenile). I found it today and hollered good God we have an ostrich in town!!

I bet the smallest one is yolk-less. Sometimes, an egg doesn't develop properly in the chicken and skips a step in the normal process so it ends up without a yolk. The largest looks like at least twin.

Below: photo of a double yolker next to an extra large, more regular egg I got from my gals.

Below: a photo of a yolk-less egg beside a regular egg. (Both from the same easter egger)
