So I had an egg that didn’t smell rotten when I cracked it open but it did smell off. Like most of my eggs smell clean. My wife has a tendency to smell everyone after cracking and this time she said it smelled off. Not rotten just off.

What gives? Or should I say is it safe to eat

:cafHow old is the egg? Anything past 30 days in the fridge would pitch. If off I probably would not take a chance to eat it. I also am curious what you feed the chickens if a fresh egg because some foods like garlic, fish etc. people have claimed in certain quantities can make the egg taste off a little. :):hmm

Eggs are stored outside without washing. That advise was from this site. I don’t keep anything over 4 weeks.
Oh well, food, they eat mostly nature wise. But Since it’s winter, lots of broccoli, cabbage, lettuce, etc what ever is in the garden.
They get left over rice and beans or whatever is left over on the plate at night. Or whatever is close to going bad in fridge.

If it's just that one egg I'd toss it. Maybe it just sat around a little long, maybe it got chilled and wet outside so some of the bloom came off.

I don't leave eggs on the counter, but that's just how I do it.

Could very well be something in the human food scraps.
Agrees, if a one off, just toss it...if it keeps happening, time to look closer.
