I have a 1year old leg horn who I thought was off the lay as she was moulting. I got a tiny egg from her about 2 months ago, and nothing since. Yesterday she sang her egg song while out free ranging. I checked around where she was, but found no egg.

Then I heard another one this morning from on of them too..but when i checked their coop there was no egg - hunted in their run and didn't see one either.

Do chooks sing the egg song without laying??

I’ve seen the others sing while one is laying .... I hear the song all morning , I just assume someone’s laying.

Maybe you’re just missing them ??

One of mine sat in the nesting box yesterday for 2 hours, then sang the egg song and ran out, but no egg.
Yeah my hens do that occasionally. I think they just do it, cause they know I will run out there to collect the egg that's not there:barnie, and hope I give them a treat.:ya. GC

True, I look out when I hear it. If they are standing still, looking in the same direction. I run out immediately.
If they are going about business as usual, I can take my time, and sometimes come up short. GC
I have hard time telling the difference...have run out many a time to find the 'layer chorus' at full crescendo(not really the right word, but...).
