So I have 5 hens and one Roo, none of my hens have ever made the egg song. They're just as quiet as could be when they lay. My youngest hen, a little bantam cochin, is ten months and has never laid a egg. So just a little while ago I hear the worst commotion outside, I hear one of my hens bawking like crazy, and my Roo Harry going nuts. I'm thinking oh no! Something is trying to get my chickens! So I go running out barefoot prepared to defend my chickens

and there is nothing going on

Harry is standing in the pen making all sorts of sounds, then I notice my little bantam Cochin is the other noise maker and the sound is coming from the coop so I look in, and there she is standing proudly in front of a nest box bawking like crazy over her first egg! I was so excited that that she finally laid an egg, and that I have a hen that sings and I thought it was hilarious that my Roo was joining in with her in her egg song!

And ain't that egg song a pretty sound.....lol.

My mean ole BR rooster stands in the pop door and crows while his girls are on the nest.
My BO roo goes to the pop door and then runs over and gets up on his 'stand' and crows.

Chickens do some of the darnest things!

The Egg Song and the Something Is Horribly Wrong! Song are the same exact "words," just that the Egg Song is not quite as fast a tempo, not quite as loud, and is more celebratory sounding. After a while, you can tell the difference. Really.

I think it's wonderful you've got a singer and someone to join in the chorus!

Once I realized it Wasn't danger it was funny

because I freaked out! Plus I was just amazed at my Roo, he is the sweetest thing, he loves his girls and is so gentle with them

I love to here my OEG hens do the song because they sound alarmed when they do. It's like "OMG I just laid an egg, I cant believe it, I just laid an egg!"
