I was under the impression that the 'egg song' was what the hens do before they lay an egg, not the 'bok bok bagOWK' that they do after they have laid?

So which is it? The before they lay noise or the after? The before one sounds like singing (sort of) and the after is just 'bok bok bagAAWK'

Thanks

I just think of it as my hens 'talking'. I thought they made a loud noise when they laid, and it seems to grab the attention of the cockerel. I mean bawk bawk BAWK buk buk BAWK!

I thought the egg song comes after. One of my hens squawks before and after; Brigid, she squawks about everything.

Most of my hens sneak in quietly to lay their eggs and only get noisey after.

Wow that is an interesting question. I love the purring sound they make before they lay the egg. But yeah some or at least one of my hens bawks before she lays and is silent after

Mine was making such a noise before an egg yesterday... possibly because I caught her about to lay on the floor of the coop and shoved her in a nest box. I think she was telling me to leave her in peace to do her business.

This morning, one was laying when I opened the door for them to come out and I swear she squeezed it out double-time so she could come out with the others. She stood up and out it plopped! lol
