Okay, since my thread got so big.. a new question.
I am running out of the cartons I held onto before I got the chickens, as they also get weak...
What are the best cartons if I want to order some online- the cardboard ones, or foam?
I plan to reuse them as much as possible before I break down the cardboard ones and compost them out, or use them for planting seedlings. The foam, not sure what those can turn into... maybe give them to the kinder teachers for projects?

So my question: If I order egg cartons- which do you think is better... cardboard or foam. And please don't suggest plastic, that would get insanely expensive!

I have yet to find cheaper cartons than TSC, at .50 cents a carton. Unless you order 200+, then it tends to get cheaper.

I just saw this! Holy cow those things are $$$ online!
We don't have TSC here.. But Big R has the foams for 0.39 each I think. They must buy them by the bajillion lol
What are your thoughts on foam vs cardboard? Which lasts longer for reuse?

That is all my same thinking... the only thing is we haven't sold any eggs yet, just gave a few here and there. I am new to all this. But now that we aren't providing eggs for my mom, and I have seen how many eggs we produce compared to eat... yeah, I think we will sell to friends. I was thinking 1.50 a dozen, but you must give me more than 1 carton at the same time for a bit, to build up my carton stores... Then you can have me refill your carton. I refuse to give away those cartons I have numbered, until the carton is beat up enough to be of no serviceable storage use. i don't want to make tons of money, just a bit from the spare eggs, and pay for some of their feed.

I have talked to walmart and thay saved me some cartons! Just washed them in vinegar and hot water and let air dry.@rojororeo

I thought about that.. hadn't gotten to town to ask! I assume the foam ones?

Yes the foam ones. Ask all the stores you shop at.

My in laws have given me all of theirs. so many I had to request that they stop saving them for me.

I prob have over 200 by now.
