Egg Swiping at Shows

Quote:
Geeze oh Pete, Redcatcher, that was just a spur of the moment reaction to what you saw as a free egg for the taking (before some else got it). It WAS stealing actually, but it wasn't seen as that by YOU at the moment; otherwise, it would have been much more wrong. I'm sure that most of us have done something similar at one time or another. 25 years ago... GET OVER IT!
You are not and never were a thief.

I have read this post several times and still dont get it

Any how someone tries to play it it would be stealing

Rule of thought (If it doesnt belong to you dont touch it)

I dont show birds but would definately not steal a egg from someone who does fertile or not

And surely would not take someones eggs period

If they took it from your coop you would be pretty upset right (no difference in my opinion)

Last year I showed for the first time, and my hens were kept seperate from the roosters for aboout 2 months or so. So the eggs wouldnt have been fertile anyway. I just do NOT want anybody reaching inside my birds cages. Come ask me if you want the eggs, and ill give them to ya, they wont be fertile anyways.

i too do not agree with everyone criticizing i am sure we all have done sinful things that we are not proud of and i think it is great of you to admit it and say that you regret it

i have never seen eggs in the cages either

If you were a thief you wouldn't even remember such an insignificant incident. As Joe Bryant say get over it. Though perhaps you want to make an apology to the chicken who's egg got lifted

Ive been to shows, once asked for a few eggs, the person said they most likely were not fertile. tryed anyways and got good veins and progress until the makeshift bator went nuts and cooked them hard. Theres no harm in just asking, even if its show policy to chuck them or something. the owner may just be happy you like their stock and give you a few eggs.

I give away eggs willy nilly. No need to steal, just introduce yourself, make some conversation, and ask. I had a Serama hen not show well recently because she was about to lay. Several people felt the egg inside her (learning experience), and we put her back into her pen, expecting an egg within a few minutes. I wasn't keeping an eye on her, as I was busy, but an egg never did materialize. I had serious health concerns for her, as I was afraid the egg might have broken inside of her with all the handling she received. She remained healthy, so I assume that the egg was laid and stolen. Don't ever scare me like that again! If you ask, I'll even write down the parents' names so you can look up their pictures. Then when you see me again, let me know if anything hatched; I love updates!

pips&peeps :

I'm not going to pass any judgement, but putting your hands in someone's cage is not allowed at shows. Only the judge or the show super/secretary should have access to a bird that is not their own.

Yes, most eggs are not fertile and big APA shows. I have even seen some exhibitors grab eggs from their own pens and shake the heck out of the egg and return it to the cage.

Let me guess, they were postal workers??
