My 1 yr old silkie hen stopped laying eggs consistently and is now stealing the eggs from our new mille fleur hen for herself. The mille is new and was kept with roosters. My questions is this.....how long will her eggs be fertile after being removed from the roosters? Should I let the silkie adopt these eggs as her own and allow her to continue sitting on them? Thanks for any input as we are pretty new at this and learning as we go:)

the hen will stay fertile or should i say the eggs 2 to 3 weeks after being taken from the rooster.

A silkie would hatch an ostrich egg if she could

If you want the babies, let her sit on them. Its so much fun watching a mamma raise her babies, and silkies do make the best mammas!!

Thanks! I'm going to let her do just that....sit and hatch those babies. Anything special I should do for them?
