Egg turner working?

Hello, everyone! First post. I’ve had chickens for two years. Seven hens and one rooster as of today. I teach middle school science. The other day someone was cleaning out a closet and found an incubator. They asked if I wanted it and I said sure. It’s a Lyon TX-6 from who knows when. There were no instructions, so I looked around on the interwebs and found some rough directions.

I’ve never hatched eggs, so my scientific brain is loving this process. So many variables to control! I put 11 hopefully fertilized eggs in there (didn’t want to wait another whole day to make it 12!) and fired up the incubator. The temp is 100 and the wet bulb is 86. I hooked up the automatic turner, but I’m not convinced it is working like it should. I’ve sat around and waited for it to turn for over an hour, marked the eggs at bedtime, come back and they haven’t moved. I ended up turning by hand. You can rotate the dome in the TX-6 and it’ll turn them without opening it and ruining the temp. I’m sure you pros already knew that :)

My questions:
1. Should the automatic turner button ‘click’ and stay down? If I hold it manually it’ll rotate, but it comes back around where it started. See what I mean here—

2. Is my egg turning ring too big for chicken eggs?

Thanks in advance! I look forward to your replies.

When an egg turner automatically turns the eggs, it isn’t a constant motion....it moves slowly to prevent egg damage. I don’t have that incubator, but I think when u press it, it manually does it for you to show that it is working. I would mark the eggs so that you can monitor the movement. Good luck with your hatch! :jumpy
