Mine are from Hoover Hatchery (
TSC), which tags them as French. None of mine, french or otherwise, opt to fly beyond going up to reach the roof. Something spooked them once and they soared over the house, then immediately landed. So atleast with mine, it's a matter of preference over ability.
I'm a novice at all of this, but I raised 3 french with 2 RP and a Lav.,who have just entered their 2nd yr. Even though they were raised together, same conditions, treatment and handling, they remained far more skittish than the others and preferred to be left alone where as the others demand their share of attention, being talked to, petted, sitting with me and hand fed. The french wld still eat from my hand. But it's more peck & run.
2 of them were the hens that kept leading my males away to nest, so the remaining hen no longer gets to free range. She's decided, I guess, to warm up to me since she's no longer allowed to roam. So now she will stand next to me to gnaw on her celery and tolerate being petted and picked up. I'll have to have Himself help me video her sometime;she gets so excited when it's popsicle (celery) time, if I'm not fast enough to suit her, she'll jump up to get a bite of celery, land, jump, bite, land..it's comical.

The cock cont. to peck and run.

Hoovers are French? I know that’s who the store orders their chicks from. They gave me a flyer back in the spring when I asked about when they place orders for the year. I didn’t think they sold French guineas and that’s why I was going to ask if they order from more then one hatchery. But I guess that answers that.
It amazes me how tame your guineas are. Mine really only let me be a couple feet from them. The only time we get to “pet” them is if they take their time going in the coop we boop their tails.

Even Tiny the guinea recovering from her leg injury hates me being around. She still fluffs up and hisses at me while I’m caring for her. I’ve been able to pick her up and she is nice enough to not peck me. So I appreciate that. Haha.
Here she is being a good girl when I weighed her.
