Egg with no shell...really?

Ok, I thought it was a fluke the other day...seemed like there was an egg with no shell. Although we are in a urban area, thought maybe something got in to the coop as it is open most of the day -- the girls free range in the garden. Just came in from getting the eggs -- and there was another one but with some kind of super soft, almost translucent shell. Don't know who is laying these eggs! Think it is Noodle, our New Hampshire Red.

All have started laying in the last 6 8 weeks -- just had them treated for cocci two weeks ago. The one that was the sickest wasn't laying and has just started since the medication. The other eggs we are getting all have hard shells. Feeding layer pellets with some scratch...also have a container of oyster shell that they can eat freely. So don't think it is a diet issue. All seems to be healthy, eating, drinking...

Is this something to worry about or just getting the kinks out of the laying machinery? Any advice for this new chicken mama?

Sounds like they might still be trying to figure out the plumbing. I had a hen lay one of those eggs before. It was rubbery and you could see right through it. She finally got it right and now lays the prettiest blue eggs.

It's just a random glitch that happens every now and then. Perfectly normal. Sometimes (especially if the hen gets stressed) they will just bypass the shell coating mechanism and lay the egg.
