One of my hens just started laying her eggs she layed her first two durning the night from the roost and they only had a thick film on them. I offer oyster shells all the time. Is there anything else I should give?

No, this is normal for a brand new layer. The first eggs can be strange that way. Give her a bit of time and the eggs will come just the way you'd expect.

My first 3 layers had all kinds of weird eggs in the beginning. We saw eggs with no shells, eggs with 2 yolks, and one egg with a shell so hard my husband had to break it for me. But they all settled down and eventually produced wonderful perfect eggs.
