Egg Yolk Color

I made my family fried eggs tonight and I was so excited to see the gorgeous orange color of my chicken’s eggs! They are old ladies so the fact that I’m getting any eggs at all makes me thankful!

I would love to see your beautiful eggs and their color!

Thank you!! My mother saved all her Marigolds for me and I added them to their feed all winter. I wonder if that helped!

No doubt! How did you do it, did you dry the blossoms or pick off the petals and dry them?

They were picked when the blossom died and then we dried them and added it to their feed.

Marigolds do make the eggs a richer color.

Some chicken feed mixes have the powder form in it.

I recall buying a formulated feed several years ago that had marigold in it, but the resultant egg yolk color was more of a gold than orange. My flock's eggs have been the deepest in color when they had access to pasture greens. Eat your greens!

I give mine some kale every day.

Sadly I do not have a place for the to free range in the city.
