My first peafowl egg - pipped last night. when I got home today, it had started to zip, but now seems to have stopped and is just chirping (sweet sweet sound!) How long does the zip usually last?? I am sitting on my hands trying not to reach in there and help out.

Zip usually only takes a few minutes... keep an eye on it, if it takes too long to hatch, it can dry out in the egg and get stuck.

Looks as if it has moved a little and popped another small crack in the egg. Will keep watching, soooo very hard to sit and wait. As long as there is progress- and I still hear it in there.

geez first time is the hardest

And just why can't mine be the one that takes a few minutes

Guess God is once again teaching me patience.

Well, waited as long as I could. Didn't look as if it was making any progress, so I helped. No blood ...... chipped away at the shell and glad I did. Baby seemed a little dry - not sure it could have made it out.
