Is there any way to tell if an egg is fertilized or not?

Not without breaking it open, or incubating it for a while...

Incubate it for about 7 days and then candle. That's the only sure fire way.

There is a very slight difference in appearance if you open the egg and look at the yolk - there is a ring around the blastocyst on the egg. Do a search for 'bullseye' and you'll probably find the threads with pictures in them. Of course by the time you break the egg to check fertility, it's a bit too late to try to incubate that one...
