I have a Pekin that I've been trying to help pass her egg all day and I'm out of ideas. Looking for any advice.
The vent looks swollen, perhaps from all the contracting, and doesn't seem to want to open enough.

So far I have (In no particular order):
Used an ointment to lower the swelling
Used lubrication
Massaged the area under the vent to help ease it out
Given her warm baths (soaked total of 3 hours today)
Given her calcium carbonate to increase contractions
Tried to help her ease out the egg with more pressure applied

The vent simply wont open enough and allow the egg to pass

@Amiga ?

Hi @Gascker I'm sorry you are having trouble. I don't know much about ducks. It looks like you have been doing what most of us would do.

Can you feel the egg? Lubricate her well. I'm sure she is exhausted by now, so place her in a steamed up bathroom and make sure she is well hydrated (drinking water).

I found this article by Metzer Farms - the second one is by Shagbark bantams - they have instructions for ducks as well.
As a very LAST RESORT you may have to try to puncture the egg and collapse it, but ONLY IF SHE IS STILL BRIGHT AND NOT IN SHOCK.
If you have a vet that can see her that would be best. Try to reduce stress as best you can.

Thanks for the tag, I posted over on the Duck Forum for this. Brief summary - I would get to a vet. My vet said that often, inflammation is involved with egg binding. So an anti inflammatory as well as antibiotic (looking at that tissue) would be needed. Turmeric is a natural mild anti inflammatory and I would give some in treats (see my suggestion - I am not a vet - as to how much to give) till I could get to a vet. And I would give 200 to 400 mg calcium in treats as well.

Thanks for the advice! Still nothing worked, so I took her to a vet. They broke and removed two eggs. I have her isolated a dim area to hopefully stop egg-laying and more calcium in her diet. The issue is her vent is very tightly contracted and won't ease up. It might be chronic, only time will tell.

I'm glad you were able to see the vet. Poor girl, I hope she recovers.

Please keep us posted.
